If You Were a Raindrop
You'd know what to do
If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t question your value. You’d know the nourishment you bring to the flower which is longing for your arrival. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t doubt your beauty. You’d know the feeling of sunlight reflecting within you and the rainbow refracting out of you. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t dismiss your strength. You’d know your capacity to move mountains and carve canyons endlessly reshaping the land. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t diminish your power. You’d know your talent to heal; cleansing the gutters from the debris of wanton negligence. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t fear change. You’d revel in your unique elegance briefly expressed as a snowflake falling gently onto a child’s tongue. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t minimize your significance. You’d know that wherever you fall, you are in membership with others who are not far behind. One in the community of raindrops all making a difference. Sometimes, you might be the first to fall on parched earth in a replenishing rain shower. Other times, you might be the ultimate that breeches the levee during a hurricane clearing the path for something new. You’d live by the rhythm of the water cycle, transforming yourself over and over, not minding where the winds deliver you or what role you play. Your expression as nurturer, artist, change maker, joy bringer would be your momentary contribution to the amazing diversity of life. You’d trust that your impact will be measured by time; not human time, but Earth time. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t limit yourself to old beliefs that no longer serve you. You’d keep your mind curious to the ultimate, unpredictable outcome of the storm. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t force your way onto others. You’d know that you do not always know the right solution for whatever ails the Earth. If you were a raindrop, you wouldn’t shame other raindrops around you. You’d recognize that there is no one, right way to be a raindrop. It’s time to be like a raindrop. While no one alone can save the world, together we can make a difference. We’re counting on you to join us.
